Title: Building and security of natural areas worthy of protection, and landscapes which have an important meaning - program shoreline: landscapes of east Rügen’s Boddens.
Project: Landscapes of the Bodden of eastern Rügen
This federal programme was launched in 1979. Although the principle of nature conservation is out of land business, the adjacent spaces are related to equipment for nature. The nature around, representative but threatened, has a particular importance to the BRD.
Spaces submit to the project have some criteria. This project comprises part of the Rügen island, which has a significant importance for nature conservation, particularly in relation to the conservation of species and biotopes. Indeed, these areas are used to make measurements and monitoring techniques aimed to understand the threats to them as:
• The intensive production using chemical materials,
• Land use, such as urban sprawl, new constructions, often accompanied by the destruction of habitats.
• The destruction of marshes caused by drainage,
• The destruction of shoreline, including reed beds due to water sports and urbanization of the coasts,
• Threats to the staging areas and quiet areas which require migratory birds (geese and cranes, for example)
The Landschaftspflegeverband Ostrügen was the guarantor of those projects since 1994. They are 9 municipalities of the Rügen’s district on this territory, and the association INSULA RUGIA.
According to the foundation issued at the beginning of this project, it is intended to constitute specific care - and development programs are to come.
• Comparison between the figures in 30 years of intensive agriculture fields and meadows of the core area, and creation of measures to encourage extensive agriculture
• Land Acquisitions " security investment " on favourable habitats sites for monitoring,
• Measures to restore habitats by renaturation of water’s surfaces such as marshes, development of dry grasslands, meadows and salt grassland, rehabilitation of military or tourist buildings and signs trails,
• Restructuration of the forest by regeneration
Many projects have so far been successful, such as the rehabilitation of the Klein Zicker’s military land, the reforestation of the Feuersteinfelder, the renaturation of the southern Neusinen’s polder.... Technical assistance needed for those projects has been collected through BfN (Bundesamt für Natur, Federal Office for Nature), LUNG (Landesamt für Umwelt, Naturschutz und Geologie, Regional office for environment, nature conservation and geology), Stauner, the office for the environment of Rügen and the office of the south-east Rügen’s Biosphere Reserve.
In addition, the LPV has made a partnership with many offices of the region, only some of them will be cited: the administration of water and forests, BImA, WBV-Rügen, sponsors such as Sparkasse Rügen, Lübz Brauerei, and Kurt-Lange -Stiftung
